Harry Souttar has pledged to remain and compete for his spot at Leicester City despite facing limited opportunities under Enzo Maresca’s management.

Having made only one appearance in the Championship and one League Cup start this season, Souttar finds himself playing second fiddle to the primary centre-back pair of Jannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes.

Given his restricted game time, speculation has emerged about Souttar’s future, especially considering his £15 million transfer from Stoke City to Leicester in January. However, Souttar has affirmed his commitment to staying with the Foxes and isn’t considering a move, including a loan deal, to secure more playing minutes when the transfer window reopens.

“I definitely want to stay and fight for my place, for sure,” Souttar expressed to the Australian Associated Press. “Obviously, I know it’s difficult with the results we’ve been having. But I’ve had a good couple of conversations with the manager, and he knows that whenever he needs me, I’ll be 100 per cent ready.”

Acknowledging the team’s successful run, Souttar recognizes the challenge of breaking into the starting lineup. However, he remains focused on maintaining his training and fitness levels, ensuring he’s prepared to perform whenever called upon.

Speaking after contributing to Australia’s 7-0 victory over Bangladesh in a World Cup qualifier, Souttar, who scored the opening goal with a powerful header, expressed gratitude for the faith shown in him by the national team manager, Graham Arnold. Yet, he aims to secure more playing time at Leicester before the Asian Cup in January, which could result in him missing part of the Championship campaign.

While acknowledging his frustration at the lack of playing time at Leicester, Souttar is appreciative of the support from the boss and enjoys being back on the field with the squad despite limited opportunities.

Leicester leads the Championship after 16 matches, albeit sharing the top spot with Ipswich Town solely based on goal difference, following two consecutive defeats before the international break.
