Scottish Premier League side Ross County are expected to announce the signing of former coach Derek Adams, who recently left his post as manager of Morecambe.
Adams had been in charge of the English League Two side since February 2022 and leaves after the club finished ninth in the league following relegation last season.
The news of Adams’ departure was confirmed in an official statement from Morecambe today, which also revealed that he has left the club to take up an opportunity at another club.
The statement read: “Derek Adams has today left Morecambe Football Club to take up an opportunity with another club.
The Board wished to retain the services of Derek Adams but a contractual exit clause has been met to allow the transfer.
Chief Executive Ben Sadler said: “Derek has done an outstanding job in difficult circumstances in his second spell at Morecambe, securing League One status for the club on his return midway through the 2021/2022 season and building an excellent squad almost from scratch this season, currently just outside the League Two play-off places with games still to play.
For all this we thank Derek and wish him all the best for the future. However, the Board’s main focus now is to find the best manager to take this special club forward.
The 48-year-old will take over from former Staggies boss Malkay Mackay, who was sacked after a run of eight games without a win and was only saved from relegation last season by a penalty shoot-out in the play-off final.
Adams takes over a side that are 11th in the league after two wins from their opening 12 games of the new season, behind Livingston on goal difference.
Adams is a household name to Ross County fans – in his first spell in charge from 2007 to 2010 he led the club to the Second Division title and the Scottish Cup final.
He moved to Hibs as assistant coach before returning to Victoria Park a year later, where he continued his success by winning the First Division title. After a seventh-place finish in the Premier League in the 2013/14 season, he left the club for Plymouth, where he is seeking a third spell in charge nine years after his departure.
