‘I don’t think’ – Int’l manager shares brand new injury update on West Ham star

November 20, 2023

Following the news that West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen has been withdrawn from the England squad ahead of the game against North Macedonia, manager Gareth Southgate has provided an update on Jarrod Bowen’s health.

The Hammers winger, who has been in fine form this season with eight goals in 12 Premier League games, was not on the bench for England’s 2-0 win over Malta in their Euro 2024 qualifier on Friday 17 November.
Many had expected Bowen to feature against North Macedonia on Monday 20 November, but Southgate admitted the 26-year-old was not part of the squad after suffering an injury in training.

According to the Claret & Hugh newspaper (19 November), Southgate said: “Unfortunately Jarrod got injured. He felt it a little bit yesterday and he felt it at the end of training today. So we didn’t have enough time before the game to make a full and accurate decision.

I thought it would be better to leave him in England and get an accurate diagnosis. I don’t think it’s anything serious, but there wasn’t enough time.

West Ham fans will wish that some of their players had not been called up to the squad in recent weeks.

Bowen and Michail Antonio were ruled out through injury, while Vladimir Koufal was sent home from the Czech Republic for disciplinary reasons.

The only positive for the Hammers is that Southgate believes Bowen’s injury is not that serious.

Bowen still has plenty of time to recover before the trip to Turf Moor on Saturday 25 November.
