Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham face a tough challenge as they return to Premier League action, with fourth meeting fifth as Aston Villa visits N17.

With only one point and one place separating both clubs ahead of Sunday’s 2pm kick-off, Postecoglou and his Spurs squad aim to extend their lead over the Villans to four points, firmly positioning themselves in the top four pack. However, when it comes to the available squad, Postecoglou is currently facing a string of injuries and suspensions.

The absence of numerous Tottenham players due to injury, along with Cristian Romero and Yves Bissouma’s suspension, has intensified the challenge. Additionally, Ashley Phillips sustained an ankle injury during England U19 duty, likely sidelining him for a month. Pape Matar Sarr is also uncertain due to an issue following his first goal for Senegal.

On the positive side, Destiny Udogie is fit and free from suspension, set to provide better balance to the back four. The midfield may see Rodrigo Bentancur take on the number six role, as Marcelo Bielsa deployed him for Uruguay, flanking him with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso.

Postecoglou did mention that Oliver Skipp is also contending for a starting position. Nonetheless, Spurs are in need of more attacking impetus against Villa. In-form academy prospects Jamie Donley and Alfie Dorrington are looking to remain involved in the squad and potentially make their debuts.
