Brendan Rodgers may consider a departure from Celtic next summer should he fail to receive substantial support in the transfer market.

This perspective arises from former Hibs striker Tam McManus, who suggests that the Hoops manager feels disillusioned after being promised significant backing by Dermot Desmond. Rodgers made a high-profile return to Parkhead, setting ambitious goals of re-establishing Celtic as a European force.

However, just five months into his tenure, Celtic’s European campaign has been dismal, marked by a humiliating 6-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid and languishing at the bottom of the group with a mere one point from five games, extending their winless streak in the Champions League to a humiliating 15 matches.

Rodgers recently disclosed his desire for four top-quality signings during the summer, especially after losing players like Jota, Aaron Mooy, and Carl Starfelt. However, instead of securing the desired acquisitions, he was presented with nine players, barring Luis Palma, who have struggled to make a meaningful impact.

The arrivals of Odin Thiago Holm, Marco Tilio, and Tomoki Iwata were already in motion before Rodgers’ arrival, while others like Yang and Kwon had been scouted by the club for months.

Celtic might aim to streamline their bloated squad of 32 players in the upcoming January transfer window. However, McManus apprehends that if Rodgers doesn’t receive the signings he covets in the next few months, the Northern Irishman might contemplate an early end to his second stint in Glasgow.

Expressing his concerns to PLZ Soccer, McManus stated: “At the season’s outset, many were surprised by Rodgers returning to Celtic. With his domestic achievements here, it was expected he’d have resources to tackle the Champions League.”

“The four quality players he sought require investment, and that hasn’t materialized. My blame is on the Celtic board and recruitment, not Brendan Rodgers. If he isn’t backed in the summer with those four quality signings, I believe he’ll depart. He was sold a dream at Celtic, which hasn’t materialized.”
