Leinster has officially secured the impressive signing of Munster’s second-row, RG Snyman, who has used his confirmation statement to justify his decision to switch sides within Irish rugby.
The two-time World Cup-winning player expressed his desire to stay in Ireland but cited the lack of a new contract offer from Munster, especially after the acquisition of Jean Kleyn, as the catalyst for his move. While initially linked with a move to Bath, Leinster has emerged as an alternative, offering the South African a reported salary of around €500,000 per season in Dublin.
The IRFU has approved the transfer, although certain conditions may apply regarding his playing time to ensure that he doesn’t hinder the development of Irish-qualified talent.
Snyman’s outstanding abilities are unquestionable, yet his injury history poses inherent risks.
