Amidst the high emotions following Celtic’s defeat to Hearts, a message of composure must be conveyed to address the current challenges.
For the first time in ten years, Celtic has suffered consecutive defeats in the Scottish Premiership, ratcheting up the pressure on both the players and manager Brendan Rodgers.
During an episode of Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Mark Wilson engaged with Celtic fans who advocated for Rodgers’ dismissal. Wilson vehemently opposed this notion, emphasizing that it was inconceivable, stating, “there is just no way” such a drastic step should be taken. He expressed his inability to fathom the idea.
Wilson underscored that despite any concerns, Celtic remains at the top of the Scottish Premiership and Rodgers has only been in charge for “four or five months.”
Rodgers’ return to Parkhead in the summer surprised many given his previous success in Scotland. However, his second stint has not proceeded as smoothly as anticipated, necessitating patience.
Echoing the sentiment, Wilson defended Rodgers, stating, “Certainly not (at this stage).” He highlighted the incongruity of such a move when the team is leading the league, even with Rangers having two games in hand, one of which will occur in January.
Wilson stressed the imprudence of making drastic decisions at this juncture, rejecting calls to sack Rodgers and drawing a stark contrast to the circumstances of another team’s managerial change.
Acknowledging Rodgers’ responsibility for the team’s performance, Wilson urged for action from the Celtic leadership to support the manager. He called for a reevaluation of the squad and a more assertive stance to bolster Rodgers’ position.
