Roy Keane and Ian Wright had differing predictions for the outcome of the Everton vs. Tottenham match, with Keane anticipating an Everton defeat, while Wright foresaw a draw.
Keane dismissed Jill Scott’s prediction of a 3-0 win for Spurs, suggesting that Everton had the capability to score from a set-piece and disrupt the home side’s clean sheet at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Former Arsenal striker Wright, on the other hand, expressed strong belief in Everton’s performance, backing Sean Dyche’s team to secure a point on the road and score twice against Spurs for the first time since May 2019.
Keane, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, stated, “Everton will have a goal in them from a set piece – 3-1 to Tottenham.” In contrast, Wright countered, “I’d have gone 2-2.”
The clash between Tottenham and Everton has historically promised goals and excitement, with only one goalless draw since 2016. However, Everton’s lack of victories against Spurs in their previous five encounters raises concerns.
The last Everton triumph came in the memorable FA Cup encounter in 2021, where a thrilling 4-4 match was ultimately decided by a Bernard goal in extra time, leading to Spurs’ elimination from the Fifth Round.
Despite an impressive start to the Premier League season, Ange Postecoglou’s side has experienced a dip in form, presenting an opportunity for Everton to capitalize. Given Spurs’ injury crisis, Dyche’s team has a favorable chance to secure a victory and potentially move nine points clear of the relegation zone.
However, Everton might be facing Tottenham at an inopportune time. Despite the absence of Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, and Rodrigo Bentancur, the London side has shown a resurgence with convincing wins over Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
The visitors currently hold the fifth position in the Premier League for their away performances this season, while Spurs have already suffered multiple home defeats to teams like West Ham, Aston Villa, and Chelsea.
