West Ham United is open to considering offers for Maxwel Cornet during the January transfer window, as the player has grown increasingly frustrated at the London Stadium. According to transfer expert Dean Jones, Cornet may not be alone in his departure from the club.
Despite West Ham’s recent high spirits following a 2-0 victory over title contenders Arsenal, which saw goals from Tomas Soucek and Konstantinos Mavropanos, Cornet, who joined the club less than 18 months ago after they activated his £17.5million release clause from Burnley, has spent the majority of the season on the sidelines and could be seeking a move in the near future.
Takvim, a Turkish media outlet, has reported that intermediaries have offered Cornet to Fenerbahce, a prominent Super Lig club, ahead of the winter transfer window. West Ham is willing to incur a significant loss to offload him and may consider bids in the region of £6million.
Primarily confined to a mere 119 minutes of action this season, the Ivory Coast international is keen to bring his West Ham tenure to an end in search of regular playing time.
Despite having over three and a half years left on his £65,000-per-week contract, West Ham is reportedly willing to negotiate a departure, particularly since Cornet has been identified as a valuable asset to boost the club’s finances for potential acquisitions, notably a first-choice striker. Additionally, it’s understood that Cornet is not a key figure in David Moyes’ plans.
Renowned journalist Paul Brown has also suggested that Cornet needs a new challenge to revitalize his career, especially given the competition from players like Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus, and Jarrod Bowen for a spot in the starting lineup.
During the final days of the summer transfer window, Everton expressed interest in securing Cornet on loan, potentially reuniting him with former Burnley manager Sean Dyche. However, the move to Goodison Park did not materialize.
