Leicestershire Live journalist Jordan Blackwell has expressed skepticism about Leicester City opting to terminate the loan spells of Yunus Akgun and Cesare Casadei this month, should the option be available.

Akgun, currently on loan from Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray, has had limited game time and impact at the King Power Stadium this season. Despite making 14 appearances and providing two assists, his opportunities to find the net have been scarce due to being frequently deployed as a substitute, preventing him from establishing a consistent rhythm.

On the other hand, Casadei, on loan from Chelsea, has faced criticism from some Leicester fans on social media despite scoring twice in 21 league appearances against Cardiff City and Rotherham United. His performances, though, have failed to fully convince a faction of the supporters, especially when compared to the impact made by some of the club’s other summer signings, such as Abdul Fatawu.

Acknowledging the possibility of speculation about the future of Akgun and Casadei, particularly in light of fellow promotion contenders Leeds United seeing Djed Spence return to Tottenham Hotspur, Blackwell maintains that he doesn’t anticipate Leicester ending their loan spells if they possess the option to do so.

In response to a query on the Leicestershire Live website, Blackwell highlighted, “I can’t see that happening, no. I don’t know the ins and outs of the loan contracts to know whether City would have to pay to make that happen, but I also don’t think there is any desire to. I wouldn’t say either has performed poorly overall. I think they’ve been okay. But they’ve definitely not been on the level of many of the other players and that’s why I do think that if there is room to do so, City will want to sign another midfielder.”

Moreover, Blackwell emphasized the potential for Akgun and Casadei to turn their situations around, citing the example of Patson Daka, who has impressed after initially not featuring prominently in the first team. He also emphasized the need for manager Enzo Maresca to maintain faith in both players, as they possess the potential to become valuable assets at their current level.

Considering the broader context of Leicester’s plans, Blackwell suggested that the club may prefer to avoid excessive squad movement this month, implying that retaining Akgun and Casadei at the King Power Stadium could be a prudent decision.
