“Enzo Maresca Urges Special FA Cup Draw Request Amidst Leicester City’s Unfortunate Streak!”

January 7, 2024

Enzo Maresca expresses minimal concern regarding Leicester City’s prospective opponent in the next round of the FA Cup, but he genuinely desires a home fixture after a series of unfavorable draws.

Following the 3-2 victory at Millwall on Saturday, Leicester City eagerly anticipates the outcome of the fourth-round draw, hoping that luck will finally grant them a game at the King Power Stadium. Maresca, in his tenure as the City boss, has encountered a demanding cup schedule—all four of their cup fixtures have been away games, from Burton to Tranmere, Liverpool, and now Millwall.

Expressing his desire for a home match, Maresca emphasized, “We’ve played four cup games this year, three in the Carabao and one today, and all of them were away. So we would like to play at home. Against who, we’ll see.”

Amidst the myriad of potential opponents, ranging from the sixth-tier Maidstone United to the possibility of facing his former club Manchester City, Maresca humorously alluded to the intrigue of meeting Manchester City. However, he emphasized the significance of any match that enables the team to progress in the competition.

Maresca’s strategic approach was evident through the seven changes made for the game at Millwall, allowing key players rest and providing rare opportunities to others. A similar strategy is likely for the next round, scheduled for the weekend of January 27 and 28, as the management keeps their sights firmly fixed on securing promotion from the Championship.

Highlighting the team’s strong standing in the Championship, the manager affirmed, “In this moment, we are in a strong position in the Championship and hopefully we can arrive there at the end of the season. For sure (it’s our number one goal).” This underlines the club’s clear focus on achieving promotion as their primary objective.
