Tottenham Hotspur has dropped a bombshell with an astonishing triple announcement of January transfers, unveiling the signing of Radu Dragusin from Genoa and bidding farewell to Djed Spence and Eric Dier.

After meticulous consideration of various centre-back options, Spurs identified Dragusin as their primary target. The 21-year-old Romanian international, who made a noteworthy impact at Genoa after joining from Juventus in July 2022, became a subject of intense interest. Tottenham successfully navigated negotiations with Genoa and the player, but Bayern Munich attempted a last-minute hijack. Fortunately for Spurs and manager Ange Postecoglou, Dragusin honored his commitment to North London over Bavaria.

The club has officially confirmed Dragusin’s arrival, securing him with a long-term contract until June 2030 and assigning him the number six shirt. To reinforce their squad with Dragusin’s addition, Spurs have paid Genoa €30 million (£25.8 million).

Dragusin follows in the footsteps of Timo Werner, who joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig on Tuesday, with an option for a permanent transfer in the summer for €17 million (£14.6 million).

Despite Dier’s wealth of experience, the deal aligns with Spurs’ strategy. The England international faced limited chances under Postecoglou and would have become a free agent in the summer.
