Leicester City came extremely close to securing a loan deal for Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo until the end of the season and had been significantly optimistic about finalizing the transfer for the young winger, as per recent claims.

Initially, reports in December indicated that the Foxes were poised to compete with promotion contenders Sunderland for the acquisition of the Ivorian international on a short-term basis. Additionally, it was mentioned a few days before the January transfer window opened that Ipswich Town had also entered the race for the talented winger.

Nevertheless, journalist Dean Jones revealed in an interview with GIVE ME SPORT that Leicester’s proximity to signing the 21-year-old was closer than previously portrayed, even suggesting that the club had practically secured the deal. However, the anticipated transfer did not materialize, leading to doubts about Southampton’s prospects of securing Diallo’s services.

After recovering from an injury, Diallo made his first appearance for Manchester United this season at the end of December, entering the game against Nottingham Forest as a substitute for Antony during a defeat for the team. The Ivorian impressed during a loan spell with Sunderland last season, scoring 13 goals in 37 league matches, bolstering his market value to £15.5 million, as reported by Transfermarkt. Despite considerable interest in Diallo’s signature, it was exclusively revealed by The Real EFL in November that the player expressed a strong desire to remain at Old Trafford and compete for a starting position under manager Erik ten Hag.
