January 17, 2024

Genoa CEO Andrés Blázquez has provided insights into Radu Drăgușin’s future at Tottenham Hotspur, suggesting that the talented center-back might not have an extended stay with the North London club. Drăgușin recently made the move from Serie A side Genoa to Spurs, inking a contract that ties him to the club until 2030.

Despite the long-term commitment, Florin Manea, the player’s agent, has offered a glimpse into Drăgușin’s ambitious dreams, indicating that his client aspires to join football giants Real Madrid or Barcelona within the next three to four years. This revelation by the agent has been further echoed by Blázquez, implying that Tottenham could function as a stepping stone for the 21-year-old Romanian before securing a move to a more prestigious European club.

Blázquez expressed his belief in Drăgușin’s immense potential and foresaw the defender’s future at one of the top five teams in Europe. He hinted that Tottenham might not be the final destination of Drăgușin’s illustrious career, emphasizing a probable move to a footballing powerhouse in the future.

Genoa initially had different plans for Drăgușin’s departure, intending to secure a transfer after the Euros for an estimated fee of €40-45 million. However, their strategy underwent a change when Tottenham expressed interest in acquiring the services of the promising center-back. Blázquez revealed that Genoa received €25 million upfront, along with an additional €6 million in bonuses, as part of Drăgușin’s transfer to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Despite the possibility of a more lucrative deal with Bayern Munich, Genoa prioritized Drăgușin’s desire to play in the Premier League, resulting in his move to Tottenham. The club had to make some concessions, including accepting a lower fee and modifying the player’s contract terms, to honor Drăgușin’s preference for the English top flight.

Radu Drăgușin quickly made his presence felt at Tottenham, making his debut as a substitute in the team’s 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford. As he embarks on this new chapter in his career, the football world will be eager to see how Drăgușin’s journey unfolds at Tottenham and whether it indeed serves as a stepping stone to a more illustrious footballing destination in the years to come.
