West Ham United is reportedly in pursuit of a “clinical” striker to bolster the squad under the leadership of manager David Moyes, as reliable transfer journalist David Ornstein indicates that the club is now open to selling players in the January transfer window.

The unavailability of key attacking personnel, such as Michail Antonio’s setback in his knee recovery, Jarrod Bowen’s injury, and Mohammed Kudus’s absence due to AFCON, has highlighted the dearth of options in the attacking department beyond the regular starting lineup for Moyes. Additionally, the injury to midfielder Lucas Paqueta, recognized for his dynamism and creativity, further exacerbates the team’s challenges.

Given these absences, Moyes faces limited alternatives, primarily relying on players like Said Benrahma, Danny Ings, and young talent Divin Mubama at present. The failure to replace striker Gianluca Scamacca last summer has intensified Moyes’s resolve to secure a new number nine this month.

Recent reports suggest that West Ham has engaged in discussions for potential acquisitions of Serhou Guirassy and Santiago Gimenez, both of whom have garnered attention for their performances at Stuttgart and Feyenoord, respectively.

Furthermore, West Ham is exploring the possibility of signing Chelsea forward Armando Broja, with Ornstein suggesting that Chelsea is prepared to offload him this month, attracting interest from West Ham and other clubs.

Broja, who delivered an impressive loan spell at Southampton during the 2021/2022 season, has encountered challenges in securing a regular starting role at Stamford Bridge. Ornstein’s revelation indicates that West Ham is now considering a move for him, recognizing the potential for a fresh start for the 22-year-old under Moyes, given the club’s pressing need for a striker. Notably, pundits such as Alan Shearer have commended Broja’s goal-scoring prowess, emphasizing his potential to thrive in the Premier League.

Former Leeds forward Noel Whelan has also expressed support for Broja’s potential move to West Ham, recognizing his attributes including strength, speed, and diverse scoring abilities.
