Tottenham has turned down an offer of approximately £20 million from Al Nassr, a Saudi Arabian club, for the services of defender Emerson Royal.

Although the Brazilian has played a supplementary role in Ange Postecoglou’s team this season, his presence is vital as defensive cover at least until the conclusion of the campaign.

Throughout the 2023-24 season, Tottenham has grappled with injury setbacks, and Royal has dutifully stepped in on multiple occasions. Notably, alongside fellow full-back Ben Davies, he has deputized in the central defense following injuries to first-choice options Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Nonetheless, with the return of Romero and van de Ven, Royal has found himself on the bench, as Spaniard Pedro Porro is favored at right-back.

Al Nassr had been eager to incorporate Royal into their squad, which features notable talents such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Aymeric Laporte.

Having joined Tottenham for £25 million in 2021, Royal has amassed 93 appearances across various competitions for the North London club.

Following initial difficulties in adapting to English football, Royal has seemingly acclimatized to life at Spurs during the ongoing 2023-24 campaign, impressing at the outset of the season.

Concurrently, fellow full-back Ivan Perisic returned to his boyhood club Hajduk Split earlier this week, having agreed to a six-month loan from Tottenham. The 34-year-old had been sidelined since sustaining an ACL injury in training, merely six matches into the current season. Despite this setback, Perisic remains sanguine about regaining fitness in the spring and being ready for Croatia’s European Championship campaign in Germany during the upcoming summer.
