Tottenham Hotspur recently confirmed the conclusion of an agreement with Hajduk Split for the transfer of Ivan Perišić.

This move allows the winger to reunite with the Croatian club where he honed his skills in their academy for six years, spanning from 2000 to 2006.

Sporting director Mindaugas Nikoličius of Hajduk Split expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition of the 34-year-old player, underscoring his belief that Perišić can contribute to the team’s pursuit of the title this season. With the Croatian team currently leading the league table, holding a six-point advantage over second-placed Rijeka, anticipation for Perišić’s impact is high.

Nikoličius conveyed the significance of Perišić’s return, labeling it as one of the most significant transfers in Hajduk’s history. Emphasizing the club’s ambitious sporting objectives, he affirmed a commitment to acquiring the best possible players to bolster their squad.

Having suffered a severe knee injury during training with former club Inter Milan last September, Perišić underwent surgery and has remained sidelined since. It had been rumored previously that the Tottenham attacker would join Hajduk Split last summer, and Nikoličius noted that, given Perišić’s strong ties to the club, it was inevitable he would return at some point in his career.

Nikoličius highlighted the club’s continuous communication with its academy alumni, expressing a desire to reclaim players who have made an impact in European football. He reaffirmed the club’s readiness to act decisively when opportunities to bring such players back arise.

Although prior reports had indicated that Perišić might not be fit to return to the field until April, Nikoličius underscored the player’s value both on and off the pitch. He expressed confidence in Perišić’s potential to make meaningful contributions to Hajduk Split’s performance once he has regained fitness.

With Perišić’s deal at Tottenham set to expire at the end of the season, his transfer to Hajduk Split seemed facilitated, contributing to the club’s enthusiasm for this significant acquisition.
