Leicester City’s stalwart defender, Harry Souttar, has made his intentions clear upon returning from his international stint with Australia at the Asia Cup. Despite not being a first-choice in Enzo Maresca’s current setup, the 25-year-old is determined to push himself into the manager’s considerations.
After fulfilling his duties with the Socceroos, Souttar is set to rejoin Leicester City, where he’s under contract until the summer. During his time away, Leicester chose not to transfer the center-back, signaling his stay at the King Power Stadium.
Speaking to ESPN, Souttar shared his mindset for the upcoming challenges: “I’m heading back to Leicester with the commitment to train diligently every day. Even if I’m not in the immediate matchday plans, I understand the importance of contributing to the team’s spirit and supporting my teammates fully. My goal is to overcome the Asian Cup disappointment and return to Leicester with positivity, eager to prepare for our next match.”
Despite interest from Sheffield United and Leeds United, as reported by the Daily Mail, Souttar remained with Leicester City past the January transfer deadline. Since joining the Foxes in January last year, he has made a total of 12 appearances, but opportunities have been limited under Maresca, with only four appearances since the new coach’s tenure began.
Born in Aberdeen, Souttar’s career has seen him develop through the ranks at Brechin City Boys and Celtic before making a significant move to Dundee United in 2013. His journey took him to Stoke City four years later, where he amassed 70 appearances and gained additional experience through loan spells at Ross County and Fleetwood Town.
Following a commanding 5-0 victory over Stoke, Leicester City remains at the forefront of the Championship. As they prepare for an upcoming match against Watford, they aim to maintain their leading momentum. Although Souttar’s playing time may be limited, his readiness to contribute and provide depth to the squad illustrates his professional commitment and team-first attitude.
