“As an impartial observer”: Gabby Agbonlahor shares who’d prefer to see promoted this season – Leeds or Ipswich

Gabriel Agbonlahor has shared his preference for which team he’d like to see clinch automatic promotion among Leeds United, Southampton, and Ipswich Town.

With Leicester City comfortably leading the Championship, the race for the second spot has intensified, showcasing unprecedented competition in the league.

Leeds recently surged into the top two after a convincing 4-0 victory over Swansea City, while Southampton’s impressive 22-game unbeaten streak ended with a loss to Bristol City. Ipswich demonstrated their resilience with a commanding 4-0 win against Millwall.

Although the three clubs are separated by just three points, Southampton and Ipswich have a game in hand over Leeds, adding an extra layer of suspense to the race.

During a live segment on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor expressed his preference for Ipswich’s promotion over Leeds and Southampton, citing their lackluster performances in the Premier League last season.

“As a neutral, I would rather Ipswich come up. You don’t want the three teams that got relegated to get promoted. Leeds were poor last season in the Premier League, so were Southampton,” Agbonlahor remarked.

While various pundits have weighed in on the promotion battle in the past few days, Agbonlahor’s stance diverges from the consensus, particularly favoring Ipswich over Leeds.

As the season unfolds, one can anticipate a fierce and unpredictable competition with numerous twists and turns before a victor emerges. Leeds must maintain their winning momentum to secure as many points as possible, replicating their impressive form since the start of the New Year, in hopes of sealing promotion come May.
