“Leeds United Shock: Deco Spills the True Story Behind Raphinha’s Dramatic Exit from Elland Road!”

Deco has revealed the guidance he provided to Barcelona’s star, Raphinha, ahead of his 2022 transfer from Leeds United.

The Brazilian winger made the switch to the Spanish club for a reported £55 million, securing a five-year contract with Barcelona.

Serving as Raphinha’s representative, Deco shared insights into the negotiation process in a candid chat with FourFourTwo, highlighting the high demand for the player from clubs around Europe.

“I didn’t exert too much pressure,” Deco, the former Barcelona player, explained. “Presidents of clubs often omit details. Raphinha maintained a high level of professionalism at Leeds.

He had a release clause that would significantly reduce his transfer fee if Leeds were relegated. Throughout the critical moments, Raphinha proved invaluable to Leeds, showcasing exceptional dedication and performance.

“Raphinha’s departure from Leeds was a collective decision, despite receiving higher offers from other clubs, including a persistent approach from Chelsea’s Todd Boehly,” Deco added.

Acknowledging Barcelona’s financial constraints, Deco was moved by Raphinha’s dream to play for Barcelona, mirroring his own journey, and chose not to hinder his move to the Nou Camp.

“Leeds’ owner had initially agreed to a deal with Barcelona in a critical moment for the club. However, the situation changed with Chelsea’s offer after Leeds managed to stay up, thanks in part to Raphinha’s efforts,” he noted.

Deco even waived his agent fee to facilitate Raphinha’s move, emphasizing the player’s happiness and dream to play for Barcelona over a higher transfer fee from Chelsea.

Reflecting on his career as an agent, Deco expressed pride in his work, including aiding players like Fabinho and Raphinha. He has since embarked on a new journey as Barcelona’s sporting director, leaving his agent days behind him.
