Boubakary Soumaré has been turning heads at Sevilla, following his loan move from Leicester City last summer.
Throughout the season, Soumaré has made 23 appearances, gaining significant attention, especially after Quique Sánchez Flores assumed managerial duties at the club in December.
The midfielder, owned by Leicester, recently expressed uncertainty about his future beyond the current campaign.
The loan agreement features an option to buy, and according to a recent report from ABC Sevilla, there’s interest from the La Liga club to keep the 25-year-old Frenchman. He has enjoyed his time in Andalusia and is open to continuing his career there. However, Soumaré is equally open to a return to Leicester, with whom his contract runs until 2026, not closing the door on any future possibilities.
ABC Sevilla notes that the option to purchase Soumaré is priced at €15m, a figure slightly lower than previously reported amounts of €16m, which poses a financial challenge for Sevilla due to their budget constraints. It’s reported that Sevilla intends to negotiate with Leicester for a significant decrease in the price, a proposal Leicester is not keen on accepting.
Besides the transfer fee, Sevilla faces the challenge of persuading Soumaré to accept a salary reduction from his current €5m gross annual earnings, a tough sell given the club’s financial limitations.
Overall, securing Soumaré’s services on a permanent basis presents a multifaceted dilemma for Sevilla, leaving the door ajar for a potential return to Leicester for the midfielder in the summer.
