The English Football League [EFL] has issued a statement addressing concerns surrounding Leicester City’s financial management, hinting at potential rule changes in the future.
Leicester City found themselves in the spotlight after the EFL’s Club Financial Reporting Unit [CFRU] projected a breach of Profitability and Sustainability [P&S] loss limits for the 2023/24 financial period. The club disputed the need to submit a business plan, arguing that the relevant rule did not apply to them. This disagreement led to the involvement of the independent Club Financial Reporting Panel [CFRP], which ultimately sided with Leicester City.
In response, the EFL stated: “The CFRP decision has been published today and will help in informing the EFL on the potential Rule amendments that will be proposed for consideration by Championship Clubs in the future to ensure all Clubs are treated equally under the Rules.”
While Leicester City remains accountable for meeting P&S obligations, the league will evaluate all club submissions according to established procedures. The EFL concluded by stating that they would not comment further on the matter at this time.
