Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a startling confession, admitting that offloading Dan James to Leeds United might have been a colossal blunder.
James, who spent two seasons at Old Trafford, became surplus to requirements following Cristiano Ronaldo’s return in 2021. Despite making 74 appearances for the Red Devils, including 50 in the Premier League, James was deemed surplus to requirements under Solskjaer’s reign.
The Welsh winger, who had previously seen a deal to join Marcelo Bielsa’s side fall through, found consistent form at Elland Road, proving his worth after Leeds splashed out around £25 million for his services.
Reflecting on the decision to let James go while speaking on Stick to Football, Solskjaer conceded, “We let Dan James go when Cristiano came in, and they’re two different types of players. It was the right decision to make for me – it didn’t turn out to be the right one.”
James has been a standout performer for Leeds this season, netting his 11th league goal in the recent win over Stoke City, underlining his value to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
