Sean Dyche had no grievances over the penalties awarded to Manchester United in their 2-0 victory, attributing the decisive moments to Alejandro Garnacho’s cunning play, which left Everton at a disadvantage.
Experiencing a sense of déjà vu, Dyche lamented his team’s recurring failure to capitalize on their opportunities, likening it to a “Groundhog Day” scenario. He admired Garnacho’s ambition, skill, and unwavering confidence, qualities Everton sorely lacked in their forward line.
Garnacho’s quick feet and sharp moves were key in securing a somewhat fluky win for Manchester United against an Everton team that managed 23 shots, eight more than their opponents.
In discussing the incidents with BBC Sport, Dyche described how Garnacho skillfully navigated past Everton’s defense, earning penalties through his boldness and willingness to risk physical harm for the team’s gain.
“I’m not about to make a fuss over the penalties. We didn’t handle the counterattacks well, and essentially, we tripped over our own feet,” Dyche remarked.
Under Erik ten Hag’s guidance, Garnacho made Premier League history as the first Manchester United player to win two penalties in a single match, both awarded within the first 24 minutes. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford converted the penalties, revitalizing United’s goal difference and their pursuit of a Champions League spot.
