Darren Bent criticized Konstantinos Mavropanos for his own goal during the West Ham versus Burnley match.
In the 2-2 draw at London Stadium on Sunday (10 March), Mavropanos mistakenly redirected Josh Cullen’s cross into his own net past Alphonse Areola.
The error by the Greek defender, who was not under significant pressure at the time, was due to an awkward body position that led to an incorrect contact with the ball.
Discussing the incident on talkSPORT [11 March, 4:40pm], ex-Tottenham forward Bent expressed his disbelief: “Did you see Mavropanos’s attempt at defending? All this stuff about ‘unnatural’ positions. He had his arms tucked behind his back.”
Co-host Andy Goldstein chimed in, calling it “ridiculous.”
The match saw West Ham claw back against Burnley at the London Stadium. Mavropanos’s mishap made the task harder, turning a routine interception into a bewildering own goal.
This incident not only cost West Ham a goal but further intensified the frustration among fans, already dismayed by their team’s deficit.
