Connor Roberts shared that what began as a lighthearted joke has now turned into a steadfast commitment, partly due to the influence of Leeds United. The Wales defender brought his distinctive moustache to Elland Road during the January transfer window, arriving on a temporary loan from Burnley.

Roberts boasts an impressive record of never losing a Championship game while donning the Leeds colors, a streak that extends back to his time with Burnley as well. When questioned about his unique facial hair at a Wales press conference, Roberts humorously revealed that the moustache originated as a joke. He explained that his wife suggested he grow it, and since then, he has chalked up unbeaten runs with both Burnley and Leeds. Despite contemplating shaving it off, Roberts mentioned that his wife approves of the look, prompting him to continue sporting it as a sort of luck charm, given the 25-game unbeaten streak in the Championship, which he hopes will persist.

Part of the Leeds United promotion push, Roberts has displayed patience in waiting for his opportunity to solidify his spot in Daniel Farke’s starting lineup, having joined the team almost three months ago. However, with strong performances by Archie Gray and Junior Firpo in defensive roles, Roberts has mostly been utilized as a substitute. Despite only starting in one of his eight league appearances, Roberts has showcased his dedication whenever called upon, making meaningful contributions on the field.

Having showcased his talent over the years at Swansea City and more recently at Burnley, Roberts earned recognition by being named in the Championship Team of the Year last season with the latter. The 28-year-old’s presence seems to bring luck to the teams he plays for, even if it means his moustache continues to grow unruly as a sign of his unbeaten streak.
