Peter Grant is adamant that even Rangers supporters joined in the criticism of Fabio Silva for the controversial incident that led to Rangers being awarded a penalty against Celtic.

When Silva fell in the box following a challenge from Alistair Johnston, the Light Blues managed to claw their way back into the game from a two-goal deficit. Initially shown a yellow card for simulation by referee John Beaton, the decision was reversed to a penalty after a VAR review.

Debate has raged over whether the decision was correct, as Johnston seemed to touch the ball before colliding with Silva’s knee. While Brendan Rodgers accused Silva of diving, opinions among pundits remain divided on the issue.

Grant, a sharp-eyed former Celtic midfielder, observed Rangers fans berating Silva for what they perceived as simulation and urging him to rise to his feet.

In his words to The Scottish Sun, Grant recalled, “Alistair Johnston had already picked up a first-half booking for a challenge on a player who had been diving repeatedly, which was frankly embarrassing. This forced him to exercise extreme caution.”

He added, “I witnessed Rangers supporters near the penalty incident chastising Fabio Silva for diving. They were vocally encouraging him to stand up. It was a scene beyond belief.”

Following James Tavernier’s successful spot-kick, Rangers gained momentum, applying immense pressure on Celtic. Grant acknowledged the impact of such moments, having experienced similar situations himself.

Despite the setback, Grant expressed confidence in Celtic’s title chances, urging them to win their remaining fixtures to secure the championship. However, he cautioned about dropping points against other opponents, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus throughout the season.
