David Moyes faced a critical decision as West Ham found themselves trailing 4-1 against Crystal Palace at half-time.

The first half performance from the Irons at Selhurst Park was abysmal, with every player failing to deliver their best. While wholesale changes seemed tempting, Moyes had to be strategic in his substitutions.

The attacking trio failed to make an impact, the midfield lacked cohesion, and the defense, led by Lukasz Fabianski, was in disarray.

In particular, Kurt Zouma’s display was uncharacteristically poor, directly contributing to Palace’s goals, especially the second due to a costly error.

Rather than being proactive in defense, Zouma allowed Palace’s forwards too much freedom in the penalty area.

While Angelo Ogbonna’s inclusion may have unsettled Zouma, it was no excuse for his lackluster performance. Without any interceptions, clearances, or blocked shots, Zouma’s contribution was minimal.

With Moyes under immense pressure to turn the game around, the need for decisive action was evident. Bringing on Aaron Cresswell from the bench could provide a fresh impetus and potentially require a change in formation.

Regardless of the alterations Moyes chose to make, West Ham’s lackluster showing in the first half could spell trouble for his tenure at the club. With the safety net of European football gone and the players appearing disinterested, Moyes faced an uphill battle to salvage the match.

While Zouma may have stood out for the wrong reasons, the entire team needed to take responsibility for the dismal performance.
