Former Rangers star Ally McCoist shared a witty response when questioned about his thoughts on the prospect of seeing Celtic being relegated.

During his tenure as manager, Rangers experienced the low point of dropping into the Scottish Third Division in 2012 following financial troubles. Nevertheless, McCoist managed to guide the team through adversity, achieving successive promotions and reaching the Championship before ending his spell in 2014.

Recent years have brought a reversal of fortunes for Rangers, culminating in the team clinching the Scottish Premiership title in 2021 under Steven Gerrard’s leadership. Despite the disappointment of losing the Europa League final to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties the following year, Rangers remain in contention for another league triumph this season, with a Scottish Cup final showdown against Celtic on the horizon.

When asked if he harbored any wish to witness Celtic’s downfall resembling that of Rangers, McCoist humorously brushed off the idea, stating, “No! Bottom three would suit me fine!”

Reflecting on the rivalry between the two Glasgow clubs, McCoist emphasized the unique thrill and excitement that the Old Firm fixtures bring, reminiscing about the memorable 3-3 draw at Ibrox. He highlighted the significance of these matches, comparing the fierce competition to the passionate Merseyside derbies between Liverpool and Everton.
