Leicester City in for Fiery Talks Over Massive Money Departure

May 1, 2024

Leicester City finds themselves at a critical juncture as they navigate negotiations with Bologna regarding full-back Victor Kristiansen, who has been on loan with the Italian side and is now a target for a permanent move. The Foxes are under pressure to offload players before July to balance their financial books and avoid potential points deductions following a breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules in the 2022/23 season.

One player who could depart before the end of June is Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, a key contributor with 26 goals and assists for Leicester in the Championship this season. Interest from clubs like Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur, and Brentford, alongside Leicester’s financial struggles, may necessitate the sale of the 25-year-old midfielder, despite his desire to stay.

Similarly, there is considerable interest in securing Kristiansen’s services permanently. Bologna is eager to retain the left-back but is seeking to negotiate a discounted fee with Leicester instead of meeting the previous buyout price of €15 million. Leicester must weigh their options carefully to ensure they maximize returns on the 21-year-old while avoiding further financial setbacks.

With their financial future hanging in the balance, Leicester faces tough decisions regarding player departures. While retaining talented individuals like Dewsbury-Hall and Kristiansen is appealing, making tough choices to secure the club’s financial stability may be the more pragmatic route forward.
