After suffering a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich Town, Coventry City manager Mark Robins has pinpointed a critical area in his team that requires enhancement during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The loss to Ipswich dampened Coventry’s chances of assisting Leeds United in their promotion push. A victory for the Sky Blues would have added pressure on Kieran McKenna’s Leeds side to secure three points on the final matchday for automatic promotion.
Regrettably, Coventry’s efforts fell short against Ipswich, and now they only need a draw against Huddersfield Town in their last match to secure promotion.

Following the defeat to Ipswich, Robins expressed his concerns, stating, “We concede too many goals, putting ourselves at a disadvantage and facing uphill battles in matches. To be successful, we must rectify this issue as you cannot achieve success by conceding numerous goals.”
Robins acknowledged the team’s attacking prowess but emphasized the importance of minimizing defensive lapses. He emphasized the need to make opponents work for their goals rather than gifting them opportunities, attributing recent struggles to defensive vulnerabilities.
Reflecting on Coventry’s season, which saw them rebound from a slow start to embark on a remarkable cup run culminating in an FA Cup semi-final appearance against Manchester United at Wembley, Robins highlighted the significant progress made by the team.
Between that juncture and the present moment, they have emerged victorious in a pair of football clashes. The entire season seemed to revolve around this specific instance, with their minds heavily fixated on that match rather than the ones preceding it.
