Reports suggest that former Sunderland striker Ellis Simms has caught the attention of at least two Premier League clubs as the summer transfer window approaches.

The 23-year-old forward has been in fine form this season, netting 19 goals in 52 appearances for Coventry since joining them permanently from Everton in July. Simms had previously impressed during a loan spell at Sunderland, which led to the Black Cats monitoring his progress even after his move to Coventry.

Simms featured 17 times for Sunderland in the first part of the 2022/23 season before Everton recalled him midway through the campaign. Coventry secured his services for a reported initial fee of £3.5 million, potentially rising to £5 million based on his performances.

Recent reports claim that Premier League outfits Brentford and Bournemouth are eyeing a move for Simms, with both clubs closely following his progress. Brentford could be in the market for a striker due to the potential departure of Ivan Toney, while Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke has been linked with a big-money move to Tottenham.

With three years remaining on his contract at Coventry, Simms experienced a slow start to his spell at the club, notching just two goals in his first 25 appearances. However, his exceptional form in the second half of the campaign has increased his valuation, potentially leading to a significant transfer fee if any Premier League clubs make an offer.

Speaking about Simms’ qualities in a recent interview, Coventry manager Mark Robins praised the striker, highlighting his exceptional pace and strength, suggesting that he has the potential to become a standout player in the future.
