Prior to the imminent clash with Hearts, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers addressed the recent SFA report that acknowledged two VAR-related blunders from their previous face-off.

According to the report, the penalty awarded to Celtic was deemed wrongly given, calling for a necessary review that was not initiated. On the other hand, the penalty against Celtic was upheld as rightfully judged on the pitch, with no need for VAR interference. Additionally, the report supported the decision to send off Yang.

In the aftermath of the controversial match, Rodgers had slammed the VAR official, John Beaton, accusing the officiating of being “incompetent.” Subsequently, he faced an SFA charge resulting in a two-game ban, one of which was suspended.

When questioned about his response to the SFA’s acknowledgment of the officiating blunders, Rodgers told Celtic TV, “My initial feeling was that they were incorrect. It merely reaffirms the position we took months ago. It’s in the past. We served our punishment, didn’t get the result, and now we move forward, just as we did before.”

Regarding whether the SFA admitting mistakes would aid in enhancing VAR in the league, Rodgers emphasized the significance of transparency and the SFA’s willingness to accept errors. He commented, “Transparency is crucial, indeed. It also showcases their courage to come forward and admit so. Such transparency and reflection will always benefit the sport. I believe that investing in resources to provide the referees with top-notch technology and education will also be beneficial. It’s commendable that they acknowledged the errors, but from my perspective, it doesn’t alter anything.”
