Roy Keane covertly hinted at Celtic as he advised Tottenham on the next steps for Ange Postecoglou, the former Man Utd legend. Despite a strong beginning in North London, the latter part of the season has been challenging for the former Hoops manager who now leads Spurs. Enduring a string of four consecutive Premier League defeats, including a recent 4-2 loss to Liverpool, has left their Champions League aspirations hanging by a thread.
This downturn has raised uncertainty about Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham. Referencing his successful track record, which boasts five trophies with Celtic and silverware at clubs like Yokohama F. Marinos, Keane believes it’s crucial for Spurs to support their manager.
During an interview with Sky, Keane commented, “We are now reflecting on the recent string of games, unfairly scrutinizing his performance since the beginning of the season. Despite initial challenges in adapting to the Premier League, he has made positive strides. However, the recent setbacks have exposed Tottenham’s vulnerabilities and the perception of the team’s softness. Postecoglou must address these issues to elevate the club to the next level.”
On the other hand, Tony Cascarino, a former Celtic and Ireland striker, raised concerns about Postecoglou’s attacking style being exposed. He expressed, “The match against Liverpool at Anfield played into Liverpool’s strengths, with the home side capitalizing on defensive weaknesses. Postecoglou’s strategies appear flawed in such high-intensity fixtures. Spurs were unable to retain possession and were easily overrun by Liverpool.”
Cascarino further suggested, “In pivotal matches like these, Spurs require players capable of maintaining possession. James Maddison’s impact upon entering the game was evident, showcasing the need for players with his skill set in the starting lineup.”
