Although the Sky Blues had a sluggish start to the campaign, they rallied under Mark Robins’ leadership and put themselves in contention for a top-six finish, reminiscent of their performance in the 2022/23 season.

However, their slow beginning ultimately proved costly as Coventry fell short of a playoff spot by nine points.

As the summer break approaches, it presents an opportunity for the team to regroup and for Robins to reinforce the squad. Yet, similar to the previous summer, Coventry finds themselves in a situation where their players are attracting interest from rival clubs, most notably midfielder Ben Sheaf.

Sheaf, who joined Coventry City permanently in 2021 after a loan spell from Arsenal, has been a significant figure for the team, especially following the departures of key players like Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres.

The 26-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Ipswich Town, Luton Town, and Fulham reportedly showing interest in acquiring his services during the upcoming transfer window.

While Sheaf declined a move to Luton Town previously, the club remains keen on securing his signature. Despite Fulham’s interest, they do not consider him a priority target for now.

Considering Coventry’s position and Sheaf’s contract until 2026, the club must adopt a resolute stance, valuing the midfielder at £15m amidst heightened interest from Ipswich Town. This is not the first time Coventry players have caught the attention of Premier League sides, requiring the club to stand firm to retain their key assets and continue their development in the seasons ahead.

The Sky Blues midfielder has cemented his status as one of the finest talents in the Championship, showcasing stellar performances in the 2023/24 season. In the event of his potential departure, it is imperative for his club to secure a fitting compensation.

Last summer, Coventry offloaded Hamer to Sheffield United for £15 million. Correspondingly, the club should seek a comparable figure for the transfer of Sheaf.

While Sheaf and Hamer possess distinct playing styles, Sheaf has notably elevated his performance this season. Given his contract status, it is prudent for Coventry to stand firm and demand a commensurate transfer fee.

With Premier League clubs eyeing the talented midfielder and ample financial resources at their disposal, Coventry holds a robust bargaining position. It is in their best interest to insist on no less than £15 million before parting ways with their pivotal player.
