Mads Hermansen basked in the joy of Leicester City’s promotion, knowing that it also meant a financial boost for his former club, Brondby.
After his return to Brondby this week, Hermansen has been training with his old teammates to maintain his fitness ahead of the upcoming European Championships. Expected to be chosen as one of Kasper Schmeichel’s backups in the Danish squad, Hermansen not only rejoined Brondby as a Championship winner but also significantly increased the transfer fees for the club, adding £500,000 to the total sum paid by City, now reaching £6.5 million.
Expressing his gratitude towards Brondby, Hermansen said, “I am thrilled to give back to Brondby in any way I can. They have nurtured me as a player and provided me with opportunities to showcase my abilities. I owe Brondby a tremendous amount, and I am simply happy to give back to them.”
As Brondby competes for the league title with just two matches remaining in the Danish Superliga, their manager Jesper Sorensen took the time to commend Hermansen’s exceptional performances at Leicester City. Establishing himself as City’s first-choice goalkeeper, Hermansen has been hailed as the next Schmeichel and is seen as a potential successor in the Danish national team given Schmeichel’s age of 37, which is 14 years senior to Hermansen.
Sorensen remarked, “Mads has had an outstanding year, demonstrating significant progress. He has not just improved gradually but taken substantial leaps, showcasing his exceptional qualities. With the approaching phase of transition among goalkeepers in the Danish national team, Mads appears ready to step up and fill that role.”
Highlighting Hermansen’s adaptability and growth in a demanding environment, Sorensen expressed confidence in the goalkeeper’s ability to face new challenges, especially in the Premier League in the upcoming season.
