Coventry City forward Matty Godden is poised to make a move to Charlton Athletic following an agreement on a transfer fee between the two clubs.
According to The Sun, the Sky Blues were prepared to offload the striker to the highest bidder, with newly promoted Oxford United also expressing interest in acquiring the services of the former Peterborough United player.
However, the 32-year-old was seen at League One side Charlton undergoing a medical examination and finalizing personal terms on Monday in preparation for his switch to The Valley. The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon revealed, “Charlton’s ambitious pursuit looks likely to secure Coventry striker Matty Godden.”
Despite interest from Championship newcomers Oxford, Godden appears set to opt for a move to League One. Charlton manager Nathan Jones is eager to bring in a new forward following the departure of Alfie May and sees the experienced Godden as a valuable addition due to his impressive track record in previous seasons.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that May, aged 30, is on the verge of joining Birmingham City after a prolific campaign with Charlton, during which he netted 27 goals across all competitions.
Godden faced competition for minutes at Coventry last season as summer signings Ellis Simms and Haji Wright found their form, each finishing the campaign with 19 goals apiece. With limited playing time, Godden grew frustrated and is now seeking more guaranteed opportunities for regular first-team action.
