Derby County are optimistic about securing Paul Warne’s top transfer target as their fourth signing this summer, with negotiations actively ongoing.
Recently, Derby secured Ben Osborn on a two-year contract following his exit from Sheffield United. Osborn, a former Nottingham Forest player, returns to his roots and is set to bolster the central midfield and left wing-back positions.
Shortly after, Derby announced the acquisition of striker Kayden Jackson on a free transfer after his six-season stint at Ipswich Town.
The 30-year-old’s signing was formalized on Tuesday, followed by the arrival of Jerry Yates on loan from Swansea after passing his medical.
The club has quickly ramped up its transfer activities and isn’t stopping there. Derby County is keen on bringing in Ebou Adams.
In a BBC Radio Derby interview, club chairman David Clowes confirmed Adams remains a target, although he noted the club is scouting various players.
Reports have indicated both Derby and Cardiff City are in discussions regarding Adams, but no agreement has been reached yet.
Journalist Darren Witcoop has fueled the speculation by stating that “talks are still ongoing” between the clubs, and there’s confidence a deal can be finalized. This will be welcome news for the Rams supporters, as negotiations continue with the expectation that Adams will return to Pride Park.
Last season, Adams impressed on loan from Cardiff, bringing much-needed defensive prowess and tenacity to the team. His 17 appearances from January onwards saw Derby concede only nine goals, significantly contributing to their promotion to the Championship. Now, the team hopes for his permanent return.
Patience is needed as Derby County pursues Ebou Adams
Fans may be frustrated that Adams hasn’t yet become a Derby player, but all indicators suggest a deal is likely.
Adams was out of favor with Cardiff’s manager Erol Bulut, and his chances of regular playtime remain slim. As he enters the final year of his contract, Cardiff must sell him this summer or risk losing him for free in 2025.
With a previously suggested fee of £500,000, many expect Clowes to meet this valuation. However, as the transfer window progresses, Cardiff may lower the asking price out of urgency to sell.
