July 3, 2024

Sheffield Wednesday’s inaugural away match of the 2024/25 season in the Carabao Cup is set to take place on August 14th.

Last week, it was revealed that the Owls would face Hull City in their first cup match of the season, though only the week commencing August 12th was initially mentioned for the fixture.

Following the announcement that Wednesday’s Championship opener against Plymouth Argyle had been scheduled for Sunday, August 11th at 4pm on Sky Sports Football, it was anticipated that their midweek match would occur after those teams playing on Friday or Saturday. The club has now confirmed the specific date and time for their clash against Hull City, as Danny Röhl and his team ramp up their pre-season preparations. They will head to East Yorkshire three days after hosting the Pilgrims at Hillsborough.

In an official statement on their website, the club announced, “The Owls’ Carabao Cup clash with Hull will take place on Wednesday 14 August. The first round tie gets underway at 7:45pm at the MKM Stadium… Ticket details will be confirmed in due course.”

Ahead of their competitive fixtures, Wednesday has two friendly matches lined up before then, beginning with Alfreton Town this coming weekend and followed by a visit from LaLiga side Leganes on August 3rd. Additionally, a trip to Germany is on the horizon, which may add another one or two fixtures to Röhl’s schedule, providing further opportunities to refine his team before the season begins.
