Brighton Drop Bombshell: Yankuba Minteh Linked in Shocking Move After Newcastle’s Record-breaking £33m Transfer

July 4, 2024

Fabian Hurzeler has shared his enthusiasm about collaborating with Yankuba Minteh following Brighton’s acquisition of the “incredible” forward from Newcastle United.

In an ideal scenario, Newcastle would have preferred to retain Minteh, particularly after his stellar loan spell at Feyenoord. However, the need to generate funds before the PSR deadline over the weekend made Minteh’s sale unavoidable. The Gambian international’s transfer fee of £33 million marks one of the club’s most crucial sales in recent memory. Indeed, only Elliot Anderson and Andy Carroll have fetched higher fees, even though Minteh never made a first-team appearance for Newcastle.

For Newcastle, it signifies a remarkable profit from the initial £5.8 million they invested to bring Minteh from Odense last summer. On the other hand, Brighton is optimistic that Minteh will continue to develop after securing him on a five-year contract. Technical director David Weir has already praised Minteh as an “exciting attacking player with incredible speed” following his “very impressive” season in the Eredivisie. Minteh himself is eager to “prove he can score more goals” at Brighton, having netted 10 in one season with Feyenoord. Playing in the Premier League has always been a dream for Minteh, and he is determined to “win a lot of games” for Hurzeler, who clearly holds him in high regard.

“We have young, talented players like our new signing Minteh, and I’m really looking forward to coaching him because he has incredible skills,” Brighton’s manager told the club’s media. “He delivered some unbelievable performances at Feyenoord.”
