‘Demolished Dreams’: Derby County Facing Catastrophic Blow as 6 ft 2 Star Snatched Away by Championship Foes

Derby County has had a bustling week, securing their second and third signings of the summer. The Rams initially brought in Ben Osborn on a free transfer and subsequently signed Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates to strengthen their forward line. Both Jackson and Yates played in the Championship last season for Ipswich and Swansea, respectively, and collectively scored eleven goals.

With an eye on avoiding immediate relegation, Derby County is set on overhauling their squad and has been seeking reinforcements, particularly in midfield. The Rams recently lost Conor Hourihane, Korey Smith, and Ebou Adams, and had been considering Stefan Teitur Thordarson to enhance their squad’s depth.

However, Derby County has missed out on signing Thordarson. Tipsbladet journalist Farzam Abolhosseini reported on X that Derby struggled to secure the Iceland international, with Queens Park Rangers clinching the deal instead. Silkeborg accepted an offer from Marti Cifuentes’ club, with Thordarson expected to travel to England to finalize the details.

The Tipsbladet report also indicated that Preston North End had shown interest in the 25-year-old Thordarson, who has been at Danish club Silkeborg since 2020. He played a pivotal role in their promotion to the Superliga during his first season and has since made 126 appearances, contributing 13 goals last season.

As his contract is nearing its end, Thordarson favors a move to the Championship, specifically to a London-based club, over joining Derby at Pride Park. This decision seems reasonable, considering QPR’s location and Cifuentes’ high standing, as well as Thordarson’s reluctance to risk playing in League One if Derby faces relegation.

Derby County now needs to focus on attracting Championship-caliber players to improve their chances of staying in the division. After securing Osborn, finding quality midfielders should be their top priority, and they must intensify their efforts to strengthen their squad.
