Alimi-Adetoro, aged 23, arrived at Sheffield Wednesday in 2022 but was not retained by the club who are gearing up for another Championship season under Danny Rohl. Seeking more playing time, he has now transitioned to the National League.
In a bid to make strides towards entering the Football League, Halifax has secured him on a two-year deal until 2026. Despite finishing 7th in the previous season’s standings, they fell short in the playoffs against Solihull Moors, who subsequently lost to Bromley in the final. Alimi-Adetoro caught the eye of Sheffield Wednesday during a trial two years ago, having previously played for Leixlip United and Athlone Town.
The towering 6ft 5in Irishman has been a standout performer for Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-21 squad in recent seasons. Making his sole competitive appearance for the senior team in an FA Cup encounter against Fleetwood Town in February 2023, he occasionally trained with the first team and even joined the pre-season camp in Spain under former manager Xisco Munoz.
Despite these exposures, he faced challenges breaking into the starting lineup, prompting Sheffield Wednesday to release him. Moving to FC Halifax Town represents a promising opportunity for Alimi-Adetoro to showcase his skills in the fifth tier without having to venture too far. As he embarks on this new chapter, he leaves behind a confident Sheffield Wednesday side heading into the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, having secured their Championship status under Rohl and actively engaging in the transfer market.
