Josh Windass has shared his perspective following England’s advancement to the Euro 2024 final.

Amidst his own productive summer, having recently committed to a new contract with Sheffield Wednesday, Windass is presently immersed in pre-season training at St George’s Park alongside his club teammates. Despite his commitments, he’s been closely following England’s journey in the European Championship.

In a dramatic semifinal clash against the Netherlands, Gareth Southgate’s side secured a thrilling 2-1 victory to seal their spot in the final. The match saw England recover from an early deficit, with Harry Kane converting a controversial penalty decision that sparked widespread debate among fans and pundits alike. Referee Felix Zwayer’s decision to award the penalty after VAR intervention, following contact on Kane by Denzel Dumfries, divided opinions across the football world.

Reacting to the contentious incident, Windass took to X to express his stance, disagreeing with the majority who doubted the legitimacy of the penalty. Responding to Jamie Carragher’s critique, Windass stated, “If a striker does that to a centre back clearing the ball. It’s a foul 100 out of 100 times without fail.”

While acknowledging the controversy, Windass emphasized England’s resilience and deserving victory, despite a dip in performance during the second half. Reflecting on the penalty decision, he noted the contentious nature of VAR’s role and its impact on the game’s outcome.

Ultimately, Windass believes England’s luck could be turning at a crucial juncture in the tournament, suggesting fortune might play a pivotal role as they aim for Euro glory.
