Manchester United’s hopes of signing Jarrad Branthwaite have been hindered by Everton.

WHAT HAPPENED?
The Telegraph reported that Everton’s failed takeover might prompt United to renew their interest in Branthwaite, after having two bids for the centre-back rejected. However, Everton have informed United that they will not sell the 22-year-old unless their valuation is met.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
According to The Athletic, Everton have set Branthwaite’s value in the same range as recent high-profile defender transfers, such as Harry Maguire, Wesley Fofana, and Josko Gvardiol, at around £70m-£80m ($90m-$103m). United initially offered £35m ($45m) plus £8m ($10m) in add-ons, followed by a second bid of £45m ($58m) plus £5m ($6m) in add-ons.

United’s interest in Branthwaite remains strong despite the recent £52m ($68m) signing of Leny Yoro, who impressed in his first pre-season appearance. However, they will not secure Branthwaite unless Everton lowers their asking price.
