Coventry City might need to exercise patience in the summer transfer window to secure one of their targets, while there could also be a late departure if the right offer materializes.

So far, the Sky Blues have made four new signings this summer: Jack Rudoni from Huddersfield Town, Raphael Borges Rodrigues from Macarthur, Luis Binks on a permanent deal from Bologna after a loan spell, and goalkeeper Oliver Dovin from Hammarby. Meanwhile, highly-rated midfielder Callum O’Hare has left for Sheffield United on a free transfer, with Rudoni expected to fill his shoes.

Coventry, aiming to bridge the gap to the top six after finishing ninth in the Championship and reaching the FA Cup semi-final in the 2023/24 season, will need additional signings. Manager Mark Robins may have to wait to land one of the club’s targets, former PSG midfielder Antoine Bernede, currently with Swiss side Lausanne-Sport. According to 4-4-2.ch, Coventry has shown interest but hasn’t made an official approach yet.

Bernede, 25, joined Red Bull Salzburg from PSG in 2019 and moved to Lausanne-Sport on loan in January 2023 before making the move permanent last summer. Despite Coventry’s interest, Bernede turned down a move to Ligue 1’s AJ Auxerre earlier this summer, and Lausanne-Sport reportedly intends to keep him. With two years left on his contract, negotiations might stretch until the end of the transfer window.

Additionally, Coventry is in the market for another midfielder following the departure of veteran Liam Kelly to Rotherham United on a free transfer. The pursuit of Bernede reflects this need, but it may not be straightforward.

Midfielder Ben Sheaf has been a standout performer for Coventry since joining from Arsenal in 2020. His positional awareness, technical skills, and ability to handle pressure have made him one of the Championship’s best in his position. Initially attracting interest from Luton Town, Ipswich Town, and Fulham, a potential £10 million fee was cited for his transfer.

Sheaf, who turned down a move to Luton in January, remains with Coventry for now. However, renewed interest from Premier League clubs could arise, particularly from Fulham, who sold Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich this summer and may seek a midfield replacement. As the transfer deadline approaches, Premier League clubs might present an offer for Sheaf that Coventry finds hard to refuse.
