This summer, Diego Llorente has reunited with Marc Roca at La Liga club Real Betis, as both players were sold permanently by Leeds United. There’s also a significant chance that a third Leeds player might join them soon.

Llorente, a 30-year-old defender, spent the past 18 months on loan at Roma, making over 40 appearances and reaching the Europa League final. Despite his success and continued presence in the team even after Jose Mourinho was replaced by Daniele De Rossi, Roma opted not to sign him permanently. Instead, Betis stepped in and made an offer.

This move sees Llorente and Roca playing together again after a brief period at Leeds before Llorente’s departure to Roma in January 2023. They might soon be joined by another former Leeds teammate, Junior Firpo.

Junior Firpo remains an important player at Leeds United. Manager Daniel Farke highlighted his significance after a 3-0 win over Harrogate Town. However, with Firpo’s contract expiring in less than a year, Leeds faces a decision: offer him a new deal or sell him this summer to secure a transfer fee. Real Betis could play a role in this decision as they show interest in Firpo.

Firpo, who previously played for Betis before joining Leeds, was praised by Llorente in an interview with Spanish site ABC Sevilla. Llorente said, “I can only have good things to say about him. We all know him and we know what Junior is capable of. Going away has made him improve, it makes you stronger.”

There are mixed reports about Firpo’s potential move to Betis. Some sources in Spain suggest he has agreed to personal terms and could leave Leeds on a free transfer. However, Firpo is currently with the Leeds squad in Germany and a recent Instagram comment to teammate Mateo Joseph indicates he sees his future at Leeds. Nevertheless, should Leeds receive an offer for Firpo, discussions will take place.

Leeds United, under the ownership of The 49ers, will likely prefer to sell Firpo now at a reduced price rather than lose him for free next summer. The possibility of securing promotion could influence Firpo to stay and sign a new contract.
