Pundit Expresses Utter Amazement Over Cantwell Exit Revelation Following Rangers Transfer Request

July 26, 2024

Jim Duffy has advised Todd Cantwell that he won’t find a bigger club than Rangers following the latest transfer news from Ibrox this summer.

Amid the summer transfer speculation, Philippe Clement has confirmed that the English midfielder has requested to leave Glasgow and will be sold [Heart and Hand, 24 July].

Clyde 1 pundit Duffy doesn’t view the 26-year-old as a significant loss for the Light Blues and doubts that Cantwell’s performances in Glasgow will attract the attention of major clubs ahead of the new season.

During Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Thursday (25 July, 14:00), Duffy commented: “I think he’s being diplomatic by saying he’s looking for a new adventure, but I doubt he can find a bigger club than Rangers. His performances have been inconsistent—impressive at times, but generally underwhelming. He’s unreliable and not someone you can count on. Rangers won’t miss him much, but they do need to strengthen their squad.”

Will Todd Cantwell leave Rangers following Philippe Clement’s transfer announcement?
As Duffy noted, Cantwell has done little to excite Rangers fans or attract Europe’s top clubs willing to invest heavily in him.

While he has shown flashes of brilliance, they have been rare. In crucial games like Old Firm clashes, he has often faded into the background. Fans may be frustrated with his attitude and decision to request a transfer, but it seems Rangers might be better off without him due to his inconsistent performances.

Hopefully, Rangers can find a club willing to take on his wages and pay a reasonable transfer fee this summer, although it is unlikely to be a high-profile team.
