Brown, a young defender, left Derby to join Swiss side Lausanne-Sport in 2021 after contract negotiations with Derby fell through. Despite his potential, Brown never broke into Derby’s first team, remaining with the U23 and U21 squads. He showcased his talent in the 2019/20 UEFA Youth League, scoring three goals in six matches, though Derby was eliminated by RB Salzburg in the round of 16. Brown also made a significant impact in the U18 Premier League Final, scoring a hat-trick and providing an assist against Arsenal, helping Derby clinch the national title.

Since departing Derby, Brown has emerged as one of Europe’s promising young players, attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, according to HITC Sport. Initially, his transition to Lausanne-Sport in the 2021/22 season was slow, but he became a key player in his second year. Brown contributed five goals and four assists, playing both left-back and center-back, helping his team secure promotion to the top division.

His versatility caught the attention of Belgian club KAA Gent, where he made 42 appearances in his debut season. Gent finished 7th in the Belgian Pro League and secured a spot in the Europa Conference League Qualifiers for the 2024/25 season. Brown’s defensive skills and attacking prowess have piqued the interest of English clubs, leading Derby to possibly regret not integrating him into their first team.

Brown’s time at Derby was marked by frustration, as he watched peers like Eiran Cashin, Max Bird, and Jason Knight advance to the first team. Reports from The Athletic suggest that doubts about Brown’s consistency and his tendency to become frustrated hindered his progress at Derby. This lack of trust and his struggle to find a consistent position may have contributed to his slow development.

Despite these challenges, Brown was a standout in Derby’s youth teams, and his remarkable progress over the past two seasons has made him a target for top Premier League clubs.
