Derby County and Sheffield United are considering other goalkeeping options after showing interest in Leicester City’s Daniel Iversen, according to Alan Nixon.
Derby County is preparing for their return to the Championship after securing automatic promotion by finishing second in League One under Paul Warne last season.
Sheffield United, meanwhile, are back in the Championship following their relegation. Chris Wilder, returning for his second stint as manager, faces the challenge of leading the team back to the Premier League.
Iversen, 27, spent the latter part of last season on loan at Stoke City, where he played 18 league games and kept seven clean sheets. The Danish goalkeeper has extensive experience, having been loaned out multiple times by Leicester City and appearing in 12 Premier League games during the 2022/23 season.
Both Derby County and Sheffield United showed interest in Iversen this summer. However, reports suggest that Leicester City’s £1.5 million valuation and Iversen’s £25,000 per week wage demands have deterred Warne’s team.
Nixon reports that the high price tag and wages are causing both clubs to look for alternative options. Despite Iversen’s desire to move, several clubs are hesitant due to the current financial demands.
Iversen has garnered significant Football League experience through various loan spells, including 42 appearances in League Two, 34 in League One, and 87 in the Championship, accumulating a notable number of clean sheets across these leagues.
At 27, Iversen is approaching his prime and needs a permanent home to continue his career, as a breakthrough at Leicester City seems unlikely. If Leicester can lower their price, many clubs would likely be interested in signing the reliable Championship goalkeeper.
Looking ahead, Derby County faces a challenging season as they transition back to the Championship. Warne, with his extensive experience, will need to strengthen the squad through the transfer window to compete at this level.
Sheffield United, on the other hand, could be strong contenders this season. Despite initial setbacks due to takeover talks, they possess a robust squad for the Championship. If Wilder’s team can start strong, they have the potential to challenge for a top-six finish.
