‘Charlton won’t be the same without him, what a blow’: Charlton Athletic Rocked as Star Goalkeeper from Barnsley and Luton Town Departs for League One – Fans in Mourning

July 29, 2024

Former Barnsley loan star Harry Isted has left Charlton Athletic to join Burton Albion.

Isted initially arrived at Oakwell in January 2023 on loan from Luton Town, quickly becoming a key player for Barnsley. He made crucial saves that helped the team reach the League One play-off final. Despite his impressive performance at Wembley, Barnsley did not secure promotion, and Isted returned to Luton.

Upon returning, he was transferred to Charlton on a permanent deal. However, after just a year at The Valley, Isted has moved on to a new challenge with Burton Albion, signing a two-year contract.

Speaking to Burton’s website, Isted said, “It’s a big moment for me in my career, moving on from Charlton. I think it’s an exciting new chapter at Burton with the takeover and the new board. The vision they have and what they’ve done so far is a big reason for me to come here. All a footballer wants is that security and somewhere to call home. When you look at the history of the club and the new owners coming in, it’s definitely got that family feel to it, which is really nice for a footballer.”

Burton’s co-owner, Bendik Hareide, added, “We are pleased to welcome Harry Isted to Burton Albion. Harry is an experienced goalkeeper who fits perfectly into our model. His skills and presence will be a valuable addition to our squad.”
